Nice, France

Tucked just a few blocks back from the glinting sea, Hotel Amour is quietly glamorous, with ivy tumbling down its pink façade and café chairs spilling onto the pavement. Step inside and you're met with vintage furniture, curated art and beautiful ceramics. It’s an easy place to spend a morning doing very little at all. Bring a book, sip a coffee, and let time slow down.

Address: 3 Avenue des Fleurs, 06000 Nice, France

Tip: If you're arriving early, pack your essentials in a tote or crossbody bag so you can head straight out before check-in.

From here, everything seems within reach. The beach is just down the road, and if you follow the curve of the promenade, you’ll find yourself in the old town: ochre walls, laundry lines swaying in the breeze, and the scent of lemons and soap lingering in the air.

There’s a small wine bar tucked into Rue Masséna called La Treille. The wooden shelves bow slightly under the weight of natural wines, their labels scuffed and unfamiliar. Order a glass — or let them choose one for you. The toast with anchovies and chilled radishes comes highly recommended.

Art is everywhere in Nice. Up in the hills, past gardens fragrant with overgrown rosemary, you’ll find the Chagall Museum — a quiet white building where colour blooms and stained-glass windows scatter soft light across stone floors. Not far off, the Matisse Museum rests in a grand old Genoese villa surrounded by a peaceful garden.

Just 20 minutes away lies Fondation Maeght — a modernist haven where sculptures live outdoors among the trees, and inside, the shifting light plays in perfect silence. There’s a stunning view across the valley. A short walk downhill brings you to Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a village lined with cobbled streets and small shops selling lavender sachets. And, of course, there’s the legendary Colombe d’Or, home to a unique private collection of modern art.

For decades, the Roux family has preserved the secret of this unrivalled art of living, welcoming extraordinary personalities such as Pablo Picasso, Jacques Prévert, Yves Montand, and James Baldwin. Their presence lingers in the atmosphere — quiet, timeless, and utterly French.

Getting There

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is just 15–20 minutes from the city centre by taxi or tram (Line 2). If you're flying in from Copenhagen, Oslo or Stockholm, you'll find direct flights with several low-cost airlines – making it ideal for a weekend escape with hand luggage only.

What to Pack

A relaxed city like Nice calls for easy, elegant packing. Here’s what we recommend:

  • Cabin suitcase (20”) – durable, lightweight and perfect for overhead compartments
  • Large tote bag or shopper – doubles as beach bag and carry-on
  • Crossbody or small handbag – for sightseeing and evenings out
  • Travel accessories – passcover, toiletry bag, packing cubes
  • Lightweight outfits, swimwear, sandals, sunglasses and a good book

Tip: With the right pieces, you can travel light and still feel prepared for every moment – from beach mornings to art museums and dinner under the stars.
